The embassy, which announced the development in a statement issued yesterday, explained that the decision was taken to protect both visa applicants and embassy staff. “Due to the potential for protests in Abuja, the U.S. Embassy in Abuja has cancelled all visa appointments on Wednesday, March 4, 2026”, the statement said.

Although the embassy did not explain the nature of the planned demonstrations, it noted that the action was taken as a precaution due to the developing situation in the city. According to the embassy, individuals whose appointments were affected will receive further communication on how they can book a new date.

The embassy also encouraged the public to continue checking its official website and social media platforms for updates and additional information.

For urgent matters, the embassy advised visa applicants and American citizens in Nigeria who may require emergency assistance to call +234 209 461 4328 or visit the official website, the statement added.
